Part time IT support leading to full time problems
We received a phone call from a private school running into problems they couldn't identify. They had on-staff IT support, but they were IT Support / Teacher / Administrator / Jack of all trades. This individual was very good at what they knew, which was Apple products, but the rest of the picture was largely out of sight, out of mind.
This individual was self-taught, meaning they knew only what they had been exposed to. And in-depth networking topology and design was not something they had ever been exposed to or came across. We came in and were able to identify the issue as failing network infrastructure, some of which was over a decade old. The school's administrators had no idea what the equipment was used for, only whether it was powered on or off.
We run across this scenario a lot, not only with schools but small businesses in general. The infrastructure is pieced together by several different individuals over the years and there's no one on site with the complete picture of what's going on. This is where we come in. We are able to come in, identify problems, document infrastructure and create sustainable solutions to these problems. In this example, we were able to upgrade their infrastructure and create an easy to use tool for the on-site staff so that they could continue to perform their regular duties, while allowing us to maintain the complicated details remotely.
